Today we talked about where our garbage goes. I used this slideshow with videos. We talked about the idea that our planet needs upstanders just like people do. We can reduce, reuse, and recycle, and encourage other people to do that too. We learned this song. I introduced them to two upstanders for the planet. One of them is John Muir. Here's the book I read. The illustrations are beautiful. Another group of people who are working hard to be upstanders for the environment are the Native Americans. This story tells of when the owners of the oil pipeline wanted to put it across their land, and they said no, because the pipelines always end up leaking and causing pollution. They fought for a long time to keep the pipeline off of their land. Here's the book. It's called The Water Protectors. This book won the Caldecott award and also has gorgeous illustrations.
