It's about a little girl named Monique who finds out that her mom is hiding a Jewish family in her cellar. She and the Citrine, the girl who has been living downstairs, become lifelong friends, and have to be very brave to get the family out of France safely. We are doing an art project to make watercolor butterflies, inspired by the book. While reading, we practiced point of view of the characters, the author, and their own Using the illustrations to gain meaning, similes metaphors predictions The big lesson we discussed was how we don't have to have been alive during that time in history in order to need to be brave. We too might need to be brave, to stand up for what we know is right when we see someone being treated unfairly, or to include people who aren't always included, or feel left out. Tomorrow we'll add adjectives to our art that describe the kind of friend we try to be. 4/17/2023
