Halloween!
Our whole schedule was crazy! ELA: We took spelling tests Read about the history of Halloween traditions and answered comprehension questions Did Halloween madlibs for grammar Math: We did a Halloween escape room to save ourselves and the school from zombies. We practiced addition and rounding, used an emoji key, as well as a cipher. We also had a Halloween party where we made frames with our photos, made edible witches hats and ate them, played Minute to Win It, and Bingo. It was so fun, and we're grateful for the parents who helped us!

I have to leave right after school today and am unable to update the website, so here is an abbreviated version.
They learned how to use the distributive property to multiply numbers in their teens. Here's a video that can help. Here's the homework. Science: Today we continued learning about climates around the world. We are using this slideshow. We did slides 10-13, discussing each climate zone. We didn't write on the actual slides. We used the worksheets instead, to write notes about the temperature, precipitation, seasons, and what we'd wear to visit the climates. Miscellaneous: We went to PE today. We're learning these songs this week: Skip Count by 7's Song Gary the Ghost Halloween Town ASL Halloween Is Coming Addams Family Purple People Eater 12 Nights of Halloween I'm reading to them from How to Train Your Dragon. 10/26/2023

Play continued for 15 minutes. Main Lesson 1. We did a distributive game/activity today. We got into partners with a die, a piece of grid paper, and a pencil each. Then we rolled the dice. If partner A rolled a 6 and partner B rolled a 3, both partners would draw a 6x3 array on their grid papers. Then they drew a linie down the side that they rolled to split the array in two. So if I rolled the 6, I might split my side into 4 and 2. Then we did the two new multiplication facts for our new smaller arrays and added them together, then compared the answers. If the answers were different we know something went wrong. Homework is practicing X3. ELA Reading/Phonics; We reviewed reading and splitting multisyllabic words with open syllables in them. Then we read the decodable, "The Birthday Crisis". When we were done we finished answering comprehension questions about it. The story and questions are on pgs 16 and 21 in this packet. We corrected these and brought them home. Fluency: We worked on our new Reader's Theater scripts. Spelling: Spelling is due tomorrow. cover words We're working on the /k/ spellings. Usually, when ending a 1 syllable word with the /k/ sound, use a -ck after a short vowel. Use a _k after everything else. This also works on one syllable base words where a prefix or suffix has been added, like in list C. Here's a video that explains it. We also worked on cursive letter j. Science: We're starting to learn about the differences between climate and weather. I'm using this slideshow to teach. We went to Weather Underground and found the weather on our own birthdays last year. Then we discussed what averages mean, and filled in the data table on slide 6. Then we looked at slide 4 and compared the weather averages on our own birthday to perfect weather for a party. Would it be better to look at averages, or at a specific day? Finally, we looked at the averages chart again and discussed which months are usually the hottest, coldest, and wettest. We're done through slide 7. Miscellaneous: We went to PE today.
