Math
We did and went over Tuesday's section of the math review. We started the test for standard OA8, Multistep Story Problems. We had a graphing party, where we rotated around the room doing different bar and picture graphs, using different keys and scales. There is no homework today. Language Arts Grammar: We did and went over Tuesday's section of morning work. Comprehension: We reviewed text structures. Jane's Discovery from Wonders and discussed the text structures the author used to organize the story. Spelling: We collected spelling packets. Science We studied the environment's impact on our traits by looking at what happens when a person goes to space. This is the slideshow I used. This is the paper you'll need to print that goes with it. We finished this unit today.

Math
We did and went over Monday's section of the math review. We worked through lesson 18 session 5 in the math workbook. 1 To access the lesson online, go to the district portal and log in. Your username is your 9 number and your password is the same one you use for your Chromebooks at school. 2. Find i-ready. 3. This link has great instructions on how to use the bookshelf from home. Print off lesson 18 session 5 from the workbook and do it. I sent home the last 4 problems of that session for homework. Language Arts Grammar: We did and went over Monday's section of morning work. We learned about Coordinating conjunctions and compound sentences. I used this slideshow to teach it, and the kids filled out this page. Comprehension: We reviewed text structures. Then we read the first 4 paragraphs and glued them into their categories together. They did the last 4 themselves. Then we corrected them together. Print pages 4 and 5 of this packet. Spelling: Kids who hadn't worked on their spelling packets this week were given extra copies and given time to work on them. Spelling packets were emailed to parents last week on Thursday. Fluency: We recorded 2 Reader's Theater performances. They're on the homepage of this website. Spelling: We collected spelling packets and took spelling tests. Spelling packets will go home tomorrow. We're a day behind because of Valentine's Day. Science Students are giving oral reports on the dogs' traits that they've researched. They're practicing speaking slowly and clearly with expression, as well as looking at their audience and answering questions, They're SO excited! 2/14/2023

First, I have to say, I posted yesterday, and it's gone, so I'll try to list yesterday's work with today's.
Math We did Monday and Tuesday's section of the math review. On Monday we worked through lesson 17 session 5, and Tuesday we did lesson 18 session 1. To find the pages in the workbook: 1 Go to the district portal and log in. Your username is your 9 number and your password is the same one you use for your Chromebooks at school. 2. Find i-ready. 3. This link has great instructions on how to use the bookshelf from home. Print off the lesson on lesson 17 session 5 and lesson 18 session 1 from the workbook and do them. No separate homework. We all passed off our multiplication facts and had our banana split party. WOOHOOO!!! They were delicious! Language Arts Grammar: We did Monday and Tuesday's section of morning work. Comprehension We reviewed the elements of poetry and played a game using this Quizziz activity. They we reviewed rhythm and rhyme on page 12 and took a test on page 15 of this packet. We got into groups and read about the history of Valentine's Day on page 3 and 4 of this packet and answered questions about what we read. Science and Language Arts Today we finished typing our paragraphs using the information we researched about dog breeds. We met with a partner to edit and revise and then started meeting with Ms. Grover for a final edit and revise. Then we added a photo and printed. We're done!! 2/8/2023

Page 1 Page 2 Language Arts Grammar: We did Wednesday's section of morning work. We reviewed the rules of quotation marks and commas. Here is a video that teaches it. Then we wrote sentences with quotation marks and commas on paper, gluing macaroni onto paper for the quotation marks and commas. Fluency: We got into groups and practiced our Chinese reader's theater scripts. A reading calendar went home today. Spelling: We took a pretest and then took home a spelling packet. Cover Sheet Words Science and Language Arts Today we finished typing our paragraphs using the information we researched about dog breeds. We met with a partner to edit and revise and then started meeting with Ms. Grover for a final edit and revise. Then we added a photo and printed. We'll finish this tomorrow. 2/7/2023

To find the pages in the workbook: 1 Go to the district portal and log in. Your username is your 9 number and your password is the same one you use for your Chromebooks at school. 2. Find i-ready. 3. This link has great instructions on how to use the bookshelf from home. Print off the lesson on lesson 17 session 1 from the workbook and do it. Homework is the end of that lesson. Language Arts Grammar: We did Tuesday's section of morning work. We learned about the rules of quotation marks and commas. Here is a video that teaches it. Then we wrote sentences with quotation marks and commas on paper, gluing macaroni onto paper for the quotation marks and commas. Science and Language Arts Today we finished writing our paragraphs using the information we researched about dog breeds. We typed our paragraphs into a Google Doc in Google classroom. Language Arts Grammar: We did Monday's section of morning work. We worked on the sounds that "ea" makes: short e like bread, long a like great, and long e like read. We sorted words into 3 columns depending on which sound they made. We reviewed the parts of a poem by making a foldable using pages 6 and 7 of this packet, highlighting the lines, stanzas, and rhyme schemes, and gluing it into our language arts notebooks. We then broke into partners. Each partnership got a winter poem. We did a scavenger hunt on page 4 of this packet looking for the elements of poetry in our poems. We also added similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration, and onomatopoeia. The winter poetry is here. Science Today we started writing our paragraphs using the information we researched about dog breeds. We used our charts to write a topic sentence, details, and conclusion sentence. Homework is pages 351 and 352 from the workbook. Language Arts Grammar: We did Thursday's section of morning work. We also reviewed and discussed all of the grammar we've been doing all week. Fluency: We practiced our Chinese New Year reader's theater scripts for the first time together. Science Today we researched dog breeds we were curious about. We read about what country they came from, what job people selected them for, and why they might act the way they do now. I used these two slides to help. If we were interested in a mixed breed, we looked up the original breeds they came from. Art We learned how to make a shape look 3D with lines and shading. We're hoping to finish tomorrow and put them on the wall! We really need to take our Christmas art down! 2/1/2023

I used this nearpod presentation to help me teach it. We learned about repetition, similes, metaphor, onomatopoeia, and personification. Fluency: Today we got new reader's theater parts relating to the Chinese New Year. Science Today we met Oakley. We discussed the fact that his love of fetch is inherited from his ancestors since they were duck retrievers. We discovered his webbed feet, the fact that water rolls right off his coat, and that he keeps bringing the ball back to the same person might make him a dog that a duck hunter might choose to have puppies. |
