We did i-ready for 15 minutes.. Go to Clever and log in with your student ID [email protected] . The password is the same password you use at school. 3. We reviewed what we've learned so far in math with A.M. work. Main Lesson Today we learned that you can have the same area and many different perimeters, and the same perimeter and many different areas. We got 24 foam squares (you could use cheez-its or wheat thins) and made as many different arrays as we could with the same area We counted the perimeter of all of them. Then we made irregular shapes with them and counted the perimeters. After that, we made as many shapes as we could with the perimeter of 18. The most we found was 6. For homework we are doing page 731-732 odd numbers, and page 725-726 even numbers. To get to your math book online, go to Clever and log in with your student ID [email protected] . The password is the same password you use at school. Click on the little cube that says I-ready. This link has great instructions on how to use the bookshelf from home. ELA Phonics: Today we learned about the consonant le pattern. MOST words that end in the consonant l sound end with le. If the first syllable is closed, the middle consonant is doubled before the le. Our packet for the week is: cover words Grammar and Writing: We practiced our grammar in morning work. We practiced building sentences. Science We cut up a giant aloe vera leaf and rubbed the inside on our skin. We were amazed at how soft it made it! We started watching Bill Nye talk about the desert. and took notes. We had an earthquake drill. We went to the library.

ELA Phonics: I gave them a very quick lesson in consonant le patterns. MOST words that end in the consonant l sound end with le. If the first syllable is closed, the middle consonant is doubled before the le. Our packet for the week is: cover words Comprehension and Fluency: Today we got together with our partners and worked on 6 minute solution. We also got into partners and read two books written by the same author about the same character. We compared and contrasted those books. We also read an article about Native Americans who lived in the desert. We then worked on using context clues to figure out what vocabulary words meant. Grammar and Writing: We practiced our grammar in morning work. We practiced building sentences. Science We finished watching the video from yesterday about how clay pots are made. We went to an assembly for Battle of the Books We went to music. 4/16/2024

Our packet for the week is: cover words Comprehension and Fluency: Today we got together with our partners and worked on 6 minute solution. We also got into partners and read two books written by the same author about the same character. We compared and contrasted those books. Grammar and Writing: We practiced our grammar in morning work. We practiced building sentences. Science We are learning about the desert. Today we watched a video about the traits of desert plants.. Then we played a game where we acted out being a cactus. First we had to spread out around the room with our feet planted on the floor. I threw out a bunch of little playing bingo chips. I gave the cacti 5 seconds to pick up as many yellow chips as possible. That represented sunlight. If they got at least 5, the cactus survived. Next, they had to pick up as many red chips as they could. That represented water. If they got at least 5, they survived. If not, they had to go sit down. They learned pretty quickly to go away from other people. They had challenges like super hot days where they had to drop 4 water chips because it was so hot that their water evaporated. Then some of them got thick waxy skin and got to hold onto their chips on super hot days, and some of them got wide, long roots, and got to move one foot out away from where the other foot was planted. Those cacti had a much better chance of surviving than the others! And the ones who had both traits had a GREAT chance of surviving! Finally, we dissected a cactus leaf and tried eating it. Many of us loved it but some of us didn't. Go to Google Classroom and Social Studies. It's the first assignment there. Listen to the first two rows. One is a video and one is audio only. Answer the questions in the right column. We spent about 15 minutes investigating. Then we did some word art. 1. Go to my home page, technology, , and scroll down to art. Click on it. Then click on the very last link, called "Word Art." 2. Click on the green button that says, <" Create Free Word Cloud." 3. Click on "Blank." 4. Get a piece of paper and write down 20 words that remind you of the grasslands. These could be animals, plants, weather, anything. 5. Have someone check your spelling. 6. Look at the computer screen. See the word filter? Type your words in the spaces under the word "filter." 7. Click on the word "Shape." Choose a shape that reminds you of the grasslands. You'll probably have the most luck under the categories nature, animals, or clouds. 8. Click the red "Visualize button. 9. Click the word font. under the shapes. Choose a font. Click the red Visualize button to see it. 10. Click the layout button. Choose the direction of your words. Click Visualize to see it. 11. Now Click Download on the top blue bar. Click JPEG-free. Have an adult help you with this part to tell you where to save your art. The desktop is a good place so you know where it is. Finally, have a parent email it to me. We did i-ready for 15 minutes.. Go to Clever and log in with your student ID [email protected] . The password is the same password you use at school. Main Lesson Today we learned about perimeter. I had them make an array of square tiles with 3 on the side and 4 across the top. We counted the squares and saw that the area was 12. Then I explained that the perimeter isn't squares. It's the distance around the edge of something. We counted the inches around the rectangle we made and found out it was 14! How strange that it isn't also 12! We discussed what it was different and found out that the corner pieces had 2 sides that we counted twice, and the center pieces didn't touch the edges, so we didn't count those at all! We then learned the poem "Pink perimeter goes round and round. Add up all the sides and write them down. YO!" and then repeat it. We traced the perimeter of the rectangle in our notebooks and glued a pink string to it. Then we wrote down perimeter = 14 inches, noting that it wasn't squared. Then we got out our math books. In our math books we did lesson 32 session 1, skipping the web. Homework was the last page of the lesson. It's only one problem. I updated the website yesterday but realized today that I typed over last Thursday's post. To make up for this error, I'm posting both yesterday and today together in one.
Math Small Groups: 1. We did x-tra math. Go to Clever and log in with your student ID [email protected] . The password is the same password you use at school. X-tra math is on your teacher page. 2. We did i-ready for 15 minutes.. Go to Clever and log in with your student ID [email protected] . The password is the same password you use at school. 3. We reviewed what we've learned so far in math with A.M. work. Main Lesson Monday we got out the scales and learned to use them. We weighed things using grams. There's no math homework tonight. Tuesday we learned how to measure in kilograms. We used digital scales. A kilogram is 1000 grams. We played a game where everyone got to select something in the classroom to measure. Whoever selected the object that weighed closest to 1 kg won! It was Johnny who chose the bag of Dot's pretzels. We then ate them so we could say we ate a kg of pretzels. Math homework is the last page of lesson 29 session 2. ELA Phonics: We reviewed and then took a spelling test. Comprehension and Fluency: Monday we finished performing our Reader's Theater scripts about Native Americans. We also reviewed the different types of folk tales. We read The Ant and the Grasshopper (pp 49-50) and found the lesson in the story. We highlighted where we found the answers. Tuesday we read The Boy Who Cried Wolf (pp 51-52). We answered questions about the story and found the lesson. We highlighted where we found the answers. We also previewed the story we will be reading this week for 6 minute solution. Grammar and Writing: We practiced our grammar in morning work. We practiced building sentences. We also worked on typing. We started learning about formal and informal language. Science We are learning about forests. Tuesday we acted out a model of a food chain called, "Oh Deer." In this game, some kids are the deer, and some kids are the resources, which are part of the environment. This is impossible to play when you aren't in a big group, so I found a video of a group of kids who played this game. Here's the video. In our game we introduced predators too, who were able to catch the deer. That brought the population of deer down, so there weren't as many. It kept the deer more healthy because they weren't starving to death because they ran out of food or water, and they helped the environment because there weren't as many deer eating the food, so there were more plants. They also ate the slowest deer, so the faster ones were left. In the real forest, that helps the stronger deer survive longer to reproduce. Wednesday we watched a video about the Native Americans who lived in the Eastern Woodlands. |
The Plan. . .My plan is to list what we did each day and the homework for each night on this page. That way you can just click on the date to see the day's entry. I will do my very best to update this daily! Archives
